On April 29, 2016, I had the pleasure of photographing the amazing wedding of Aaron Kemper and Chan Jones. The wedding took place at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage in Louisville, Kentucky. You wouldn't know just by looking at it, but this building was once a street trolley barn and dates back to the late 1800's.

Aaron and Chan are a couple that were made for one another. Both practicing lawyers, Aaron and Chan seem to have a playful side that definitely came out during their wedding day.I started the day off photographing Aaron and his groomsmen—each of whom brought along their own unique style and personality. A great groomsman has the ability to calm a groom’s nerves before a wedding, and Aaron’s guys did a great job of this. 

Next, I headed upstairs to photograph Chan and she and her bridesmaids prepared for the big day. Chan looked amazing in her wedding dress, as did her bridesmaids.The first-look took place in a quiet room at the very top of the Heritage Museum. It was at this time that I think Chan and Aaron realized how big this day truly was.One of the hardest parts about photographing a wedding is the lighting. But I must say that the lighting in the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage was perfect! This was especially helping during the ceremony. Every small detail of the wedding ceremony was perfect. From the beautiful flower girl holding the “here comes the bride sign,” to the look on Chan’s father’s face as he walked his daughter down the aisle. And finally, to seal the deal, the bride and groom jumped the broom and the groom broke the glass. As the bride and groom exited the wedding ceremony, their faces were filled with joy, excitement and relief.? Next, it was time to party!

One of the favorite moments of the night was photographing Aaron as he played a song on the piano for his new bride. I have to admit--the guy has talent! And the wedding party was not afraid to let loose on the dance floor. Everyone, young and old, celebrated the union of Aaron and Chan Kemper with a bang!
